My goal is to help Horse and Rider function optimally as a team.
About Me
I’m Dr. Em Loftus, DC, CAC. I am an licensed Chiropractor in both Maine and Georgia, an Internationally (IVCA) Certified Animal Chiropractor, and Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist.
My journey of becoming an animal chiropractor started when I was 5 years old. Like many young girls, I attended a horse riding birthday party … and I have yet to grow out of the “horse girl” phase. At the age of 11, I owned my first pony, a Quarter Horse named Micro Machine (“Mickey”). Mickey exposed me to the sport of Three Day Eventing, which has been my passion ever since. Being an adrenaline junkie, I competed up to the Preliminary (**) Level with my soul horse, an OTTB named Bully for Billy (“Billy”).
Currently, I continue to ride recreationally in various disciplines of hunter / jumpers, dressage, trail riding, and of course, Three Day Eventing.
I am proudly owned by two dogs – Boo, a 13 year old Jack Russell Terrier, and Squash, a 2 year old Rescue Cattle Dog / Boxer / Terrier mix. My family and I currently reside north of Atlanta, Georgia and love to hike, travel, and be outside as much as possible.
Helping Horse & Rider
The rider can’t perform optimally if their horse does not have proper biomechanics. The horse cannot perform optimally if their rider does not have proper biomechanics.
That’s where I come in.
As a competitive Three Day Eventer for over 20 years, I understand first hand the physical demands of both horse and rider. The riders need to care for their bodies just as much as the horse. That way, we riders can stay in the saddle for years to come.
Why Chiropractic?
At the age of 18, I was diagnosed with two herniated discs. As I was completing my treatment, I realized that the time I was forced to take off from riding was 100% preventable! If I had had a solid foundation of Chiropractic care, Soft tissue Mobilization, and Functional Movement focused rehab, I would not lost valuable training time that would have allowed me to compete with the Junior Olympic team.
I’ve always felt the most at home in a barn. I knew being inside at a desk was not how I wanted spend my day. So I searched for a way to spend my working hours outside, with animals, covered in dirt, hay, and a whole lot of dog hair!! As a result, my love for animal chiropractic was born! I am now able to practice my passion of keeping horse and rider under saddle for as long as possible, increase quality of life and performance, and being outside with animals.
